Nourish: A Weekly Intention to Feed What Fuels You

Before the week starts asking things of you, ask what you need. Then give that to yourself.

By Janet Chavez · KW Mindfulness

"What would it look like to spend a week not pushing through, but feeding what actually needs to be fed?"

Each Monday, KW Mindfulness begins with a single word. The word that closes out this week's session is nourish. Not a slogan. Not a task list. A returning point — something to come back to whenever the week starts pulling you off balance.

Before the intention was revealed, Janet guided the group through a simple meditation. Find a comfortable seat, on the floor or in a chair. Notice the breath. Land in the present moment, without expecting anything of it. Then ask the question that sits underneath everything else: Who am I? — noticing the thoughts, feelings, and sensations that rise in response, without judging them, without needing to answer.

Why this word, and not another

Most intentions point outward. Nourish points inward. It asks what is already depleted — and what you can honestly do about it this week.

Janet framed nourishment across three layers: the body, the mind, and the soul. Not as a project to complete, but as a soft practice of paying attention and choosing what actually supports you. Breath as the first refill. Breaks as part of the work. Creativity as something worth protecting, not squeezed in at the end of the day.

What the meditation actually pointed to

  • 1Releasing tension before trying to produce clarity — the exhale is the reset, not the to-do list.
  • 2Identity as something you can observe, not something you have to defend.
  • 3Noticing what brings joy — and treating that as data, not a distraction.
  • 4Mindful moments as the intentional pauses that let presence interrupt autopilot.
  • 5Choosing what supports your well-being over what simply fills your time.

How to live the word this week

The practice isn't about overhauling your life by Saturday. It's about noticing — then choosing. Where in your week are you running on empty? What single thing would actually feed that part of you?

That might be food. It might be sleep. It might be ten quiet minutes with a cup of coffee before the first call. It might be saying no to the one thing you only agreed to out of obligation. The word is the same. The application is yours.

"Nourishment is recognizing joy when you feel it and pausing — so joy is not just something that happens to you, but something you actively let in."

Keep it going

Janet shared that additional ideas for everyday nourishment will be posted in the KW Mindfulness Facebook group — small ways to keep the word front of mind instead of a one-time note at the top of your week.

If you missed the live session, you can still hold the word. Pick one way to nourish yourself today. Then one more tomorrow. Let it become the rhythm underneath everything else you do this week.
