What Container Are You In?

By Kimberly Guiry · KW Wellness · June 2026

During COVID, a lot of people took up baking bread, making sourdough starters, or creating TikTok videos.

I became a plant person.

Six years later, many of those same plants are still with me.

This weekend, I spent time repotting them. Checking the soil. Looking at the roots. Trimming away dead leaves. Looking for signs of stress or disease. Making sure they had what they needed to continue growing.

And, as often happens, I found myself thinking about coaching.

Some of the plants had outgrown their containers.

There was nothing wrong with them.

In fact, they looked healthy.

But their roots had reached the edges of the pot. They needed more room. More soil. More space to expand.

The solution wasn't more water.

It wasn't more sunlight.

It was a bigger container.

Other plants were doing just fine.

They didn't need a major change. They needed a little maintenance. A little fresh soil. A trim here and there. A little extra attention.

And then there were a few that looked healthy from the outside but weren't thriving underneath.

When I examined the roots, I found root rot. Disease. Signs that something deeper wasn't working.

From the top, they looked fine.

Below the surface, they were struggling.

Humans aren't all that different.

Sometimes we're thriving exactly where we are. We simply need consistency and care.

Sometimes we've outgrown our environment and what worked before is now limiting our growth.

And sometimes everything looks good on the outside while something deeper needs our attention.

As we move into June and begin looking toward the second half of the year, consider:

What container are you in?

Have you outgrown it?

Do you need maintenance?

Do you need healing?

Do you need more room to grow?

Or is it time to uproot yourself and plant yourself somewhere new?

What fascinates me about plants is that no matter the variety, they all need a few essential things:

Sunlight.

Air.

Water.

Growth starts there.

For humans, the list may look a little different, but the principle remains the same.

We all need the right environment.

We all need nourishment.

We all need room to grow.

And we all have to trust that what we're cultivating today will eventually become something greater tomorrow.

So as you enter this next season, pay attention to your roots.

Growth isn't always about doing more.

Sometimes it's about making sure you're planted in the right place.
